Long-term management of feline cystitis

Long-term management of cats with cystitis to reduce the risk of recurrence has three simple principles:

1. Increasing water intake
Increasing water intake is important to help dilute urine and increase urination frequency so your cat doesn't hold urine for too long. To roughly calculate the amount of water your cat should consume per day, multiply your cat's weight by 50.

2. Reduce stress
There should be more toys or activities for the cat to do with it. Other environmental arrangements include having enough food and water bowls. The litter box should be in a quiet area for the cat to do its business. The cat litter must be scooped and cleaned daily. There should be at least one litter box per cat. Remember to separate cats that tend to fight to reduce stress.

3. Food management
Using wet food can help reduce the incidence of recurrence of cystitis because it increases the amount of water in the body to be excreted into the urinary tract. Or choosing to feed a formula that specifically treats this disease, which has been adjusted for the appropriate nutritional balance, is another good choice.

Long-term management mainly requires the patience of the pet owner and regular check-ups with the veterinarian.
