Wet scabies

Skin disease is the most common problem in dogs. Symptoms include hair loss, itching, red, inflamed skin, some have a foul odor, and bumps and scales on the body. Many people think of it as mange.

This scabies disease is caused by external parasites, namely:What is it?Mite) Or scabies

"Scabies" It is a type of external parasite, but it is so small that it cannot be seen with the naked eye. There are two types of mites that cause scabies in dogs: sarcoptes, whichIs the cause of“Dry scabies” and demodex   Is the cause of“Scabies or wet scabies”

When your dog has itchy, bumpy, or red rashes and the doctor suspects that it may be mange, the doctor will examine it by scraping skin from the dog and examining it under a microscope. But for the dog whose owner brought it to the vet today, the doctor found that it has pustular mange mites, or what we know as "wet mange."

Hey!!! What is this pore-clogging scabies or wet scabies?? Let's find the answer. The doctor will simply call this disease wet scabies.

Demodex mites live in pores on the face, head, around the eyes, body, legs, soles of the feet, and paws. Demodex mites have long, worm-like bodies. Dogs become infected with this mite through direct contact from their mother to their newborn puppies within the first 72 hours. Therefore, the areas that usually become infected first are the paws, around the mouth, and around the eyes that come into contact with the mother dog while she is nursing. However, this mite cannot yet cause scabies because it is present in small quantities and the puppies still have immunity from their mother.

Symptoms can appear in two forms:

Local type The symptoms that can be found are hair loss on the face, head, cheeks, lips, and around the eyes. In a specific area, there will be about 1-5 areas where hair will fall out.

Dispersed type The symptoms found are hair loss all over the body, skin may change color and may thicken, bacterial infection may occur, pustules, greasy skin, and inflamed hair follicles may occur.

Diagnosis: The doctor will scrape the dog's skin, scraping deep layers of skin in several places. This method may cause the dog to bleed a little.

Treatment In some localized cases, the dog may heal on its own if the dog is strong and has a good immune system. However, if there is hair loss, red, itchy, and scratching skin, or small red, inflamed sores, the vet may recommend bathing and washing with medicated shampoo. The owner may need to shave or cut the hair around the lesions to allow the shampoo to better contact the lesions and give medication to help reduce the symptoms. In cases where the condition is widespread, the dog will have severe skin inflammation, hair loss, pustules will break out, itchy and scratchy sores, bleeding, and the skin will thicken and darken as shown in the picture above. The vet may need to use a deworming medication and antibiotics to control the bacterial infection, anti-inflammatory drugs for the skin, and medications to relieve itching along with bathing with medicated shampoo.

Protection Owners should take care of their dogs to be healthy and strong, feed them food that is full of nutrients, deworm the digestive tract, and try not to make the dogs stressed because this disease, if the dog is weak and has reduced immunity, the asymptomatic scabies mites may multiply and cause the disease.

You see, even if your dog has a little itchy bump, sometimes the symptoms are not as minor as you think. Therefore, you should quickly bring them to get checked to help keep their skin healthy.
