Attention all you dog owners! Especially new owners who are looking for a new dog to adopt and are still deciding. But raising a dog doesn't mean you can just raise it if you want. Dog owners should first study the risks involved before starting a new dog. Today, we're going to introduce you to "hip dysplasia," a disease that all dog owners shouldn't overlook.

Hip dysplasia  It is a common disease that affects all breeds of our four-legged friends. This disease is caused by abnormalities in the hip joints, which lead to joint degeneration. Symptoms vary depending on the breed, gender, and age of the dog. Dr. Buraphong Suthirat (Dr. Tang) A veterinarian at the Orthopedic Department at Taling Chan Animal Hospital explained, "All dog breeds have the same bone structure. The front legs and pelvic area, which includes the hip joints, can support 60% of body weight, and the hind legs can support 40% of body weight. When a dog begins to experience hip degeneration, causing pain in all joints in the body, it will make walking or running difficult."

Now that we've briefly learned about hip dysplasia, let's take a look at which dog breeds are at risk for this disease, so we can prepare and take care of our dogs.

2. Labrador Retriever

Labradors are fun-loving, energetic, and affectionate dogs, so it's no surprise to see them as the four-legged companions of many families. Of course, their genetics put them at a high risk for hip dysplasia. If a family notices they are lethargic or not walking or running much, they should take them to the vet for a checkup.

Even small, stubborn dogs like Pomeranians are at risk of developing hip dysplasia. They're usually full of energy, cheerful, and a good barker, especially at larger dogs that are smaller than them. So if you see them acting less aggressive than they used to, such as dragging their legs, limping, or not walking at all, you should see a doctor.

German Shepherds are a large breed of dog known for their strength and agility, making them often used as police dogs, guard dogs, war dogs, or dogs that help detect bombs and drugs. However, they are prone to health problems such as hip dysplasia, so German Shepherds must undergo hip certification before they can perform various duties.

5. Siberian Husky

Siberians are generally cheerful dogs, and they are also prone to hip dysplasia. If you notice any abnormalities in their gait or if they are unable to sit properly, see a veterinarian before the condition becomes severe and potentially disabling if left untreated.

In addition to the aforementioned breeds, other breeds, including large and small dogs and even cats, can also experience hip dysplasia.

All animals are living beings that can get sick, just like humans. If owners pay attention to their dogs and watch for symptoms, they can get their dogs treated for this disease in time before it becomes more serious.
