Acute pancreatitis in dogs

pancreasIt has an important role in the production of digestive enzymes, with a tube opening into the small intestine, and is responsible for the production of insulin (insulin) and glucagon (glucagon) which is important in controlling sugar metabolism. Pancreatitis is related to the function of producing digestive enzymes.

Pancreatitis (Pancreatitis)
is Severe inflammation of the pancreas, a key digestive organ. And it is a disease that results from feeding your dog food, so you should avoid feeding your dog food that is high in fat or has an unbalanced nutrient balance.

Factors predisposing to pancreatitis namely

Some medicines  such as Sulfa drugs or chemotherapy Such as azathioprine

Obesity including fat metabolism disorders

High blood fat levels ( hyperlipidaemia )

High blood calcium levels ( hypercalcemia )

Injuries and Concussions

Low blood pressure (hypotension)

Age is also important, you will find that middle-aged dogs ( middle age )There is an increased risk

Strains at risk include: Schnauzers and Yorkshire terriers

Nutrition Feeding dogs a high-fat diet can increase the incidence of the disease.

Have a history of abdominal surgery There is a high likelihood of having this disease.

symptom

In dogs, it usually begins with acute vomiting. (suddenly vomit)  Followed by dehydration (dehydrated)  Thin (lethargic) May have diarrhea (diarrhea) And have a fever (fever) Join with Symptoms of the disease can become more severe because inflammation of the pancreas causes pancreatic enzymes to be released into the bloodstream, which causes the body's inflammation control system to fail. (systemic inflammatory response syndrome) Causes organ failure ( multiple organ dysfunction ) Follow me

Diagnosis

– Taking a history of predisposing factors for pancreatitis
– Diagnostic radiology The dilatation of the proximal ileum margin will be found. (duodenum)
Along the stomach line shows swelling. (swell) Of the pancreas But this method has relatively low accuracy.
– Ultrasound examination This method is more accurate than X-rays and can examine other organs simultaneously. It can also be used to help collect fluid samples from the peritoneal cavity. Therefore, it is a method that is fairly fast and accurate.
– Laboratory testing namely
    – Blood test, but the results may be uncertain. Due to the level amylase and Lipase
Which is an enzyme of The pancreas It may also be higher for other reasons.
    – Method of inspection PLI (pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity)
It is a more pancreas-specific method but requires a laboratory. Specification Therefore, it is not popular.
    – Method of inspection SPECcPL (Specific canine pancreatic lipase)
It is a very popular method nowadays because of its sensitivity. (sensitivity) andHave specificity
      (specific)
To high-risk disease It also gives fast results.
    – Quantitative pancreatic enzyme measurement (canine pancreatic lipase = V-check CPL)

Treatment

Rest the pancreas by fasting during the early stages of pancreatitis, as the passage of food into the intestines stimulates the pancreas.

Intravenous fluid administration is very important because it improves blood flow to the pancreas, prevents lack of blood flow to the pancreas, and prevents dehydration. The fluid used should be one with high potassium content. Because in pancreatitis, potassium deficiency often occurs.

Critically ill animals should be closely monitored. And may need multiple blood tests within 24 Hours to balance the body's acid-base and electrolytes.

Giving injection pain relievers because sick animals are in a lot of pain. Giving this pain reliever will reduce inflammation and affect the survival rate of sick animals.

Give anti-emetic medication
              – Antibiotic administration is necessary if a bloodstream infection is detected. (sepsis)  Because some antibiotics can affect pancreatic inflammation.

– When feeding begins Low-fat food should be provided such as High-fiber medicinal foods such as: Food Recipes w/d of Hill's science diet or intestinal low fat of royal canin To reduce pancreatic stimulation
